This pattern is a stitch practice sampler pattern, several often used embroidery stitches are used in this pattern so you can practice them. The pattern also comes with the stitches written into it, so you know which ones to use where.
The stitches to practice are:
- Back stitch
- Satin stitch
- Running stitch
- Chain stitch
- Stem stitch
- Split stitch
- Fern stitch
- Lazy daisy/detached chain stitch
- French knot
- Fishbone stitch
- Woven rose wheel
It is a very easy and simple pattern, meant for beginner stitchers.

The pattern is a depiction of a small Four Elements altar decoration and I created a small practical spiritual ritual to do while you stitch this pattern. It is an easy way to combine art and creativity with practical spiritual ritual. Embroidery is especially suitable for 'artcraft', a form of practical spiritual ritual or spellwork, because it is very visually evocative and descriptive and a slow mindful handcraft that eases your concentration at the same time. For spiritual crafters, embroidery is a wonderful tool to set your intentions while stitching, to help you center and weave your blessings into your work, either for yourself or to give to a loved one you want to bestow positive energy on.

This pattern fits nicely into a 21 cm/8 inch embroidery hoop. You can scale up or down to fit your needs.

The embroideries shown in the photos are done with two different embroidery floss brands, one is done in all DMC flos and one is done in hand dyed Cottage Garden Threads, which is an Australian mother-and-daughter team made brand, that are available in the Netherlands from the embroidery webshop Atelier Soed Idee, which is where I source mine.

If you need tutorials to see how to do these stitches, check out my Lovely Links Directory for links to several sources for embroidery tutorials.
